Friends of Balaam’s Wood
Frankley Great Park
Community
It was good to meet volunteers from the Friends of Balaam’s Wood group on Thursday.
The group builds improvements in the woodland such as bridges and benches. They maintain the quality of the woodland and they conduct regular litterpicks. The group also help to monitor water quality in the River Rea and they keep a community orchard.
Balaam’s Wood is a beautiful natural and community resource. But reductions in park ranger services pose real challenges to volunteer groups’ ability to make improvements to these public spaces.
We need to protect our natural environment, and I want to work with our volunteer groups so they can continue to make our woodlands accessible to the community.
