Traffic problems outside St Laurence schools / Bunbury Road
There was a horrendous near-miss outside the St Laurence schools (Infant and Primary) on 22 April.
A car swevered on to a curb on the Bunbury Road and landed on the schools’ drive shortly before children and parents were due to leave for the day.
Two months have passed and the damage is still visible. Other incidents have led to closure of the road at busy times.
I met parent and staff representatives yesterday, who raised longstanding problems of inappropriate parking enforcement. The campaign group Better Streets for Birmingham have been helpful, but action is needed from public authorities.
It was clear to me that traffic calming measures - or other appropriate steps - are needed before another serious incident occurs.
Along with Esther Rai, Labour’s council candidate for Northfield, I’ve committed to taking up the issue and reporting back on progress.
